About
There are many facts, you don’t know about oxygen: It is the 8th element of the Periodic Table (nucleus charge – 8), indicated with the symbol O, with relative atomic mass 16. The valence of its compounds is equal to two,
The most common oxidation state is: -2. The oxygen molecule O2 has relative molecular mass of 32. How oxygen appeared on Earth is a great mystery until present times.
There are some theories
One of them is that oxygen was formed from water in the upper atmosphere under influence of the UV-radiaton.
Other theory affirms that oxygen was formed as a result of photosynthesis in later stages of Earth’s evolution.
There are two running processes in the air – depletion and filling of oxygen – the first one is photosynthesis of green plants, the photo-chemical decomposition of water vapor in the upper atmosphere; activity of phytoplankton in oceans and seas has its important, even leading, role.
Nowadays
Today, many people from all around the world start to understand what miraculous power the oxygen possess.
Oxygen therapy has become so popular that today there are oxygen bars, oxygen cosmetics, cocktails and many other products – the added oxygen helps solving many health problems – obesity, lack of energy, and poor health. People who lack oxygen have bad sleep and are wake up tired. They suffer of headaches, constipation, indigestion, muscle aches, rheumatism, back pain and feet, caries and periodontal problems, decreased vision and hearing, memory-loss, tonsillitis, bronchitis, asthma, sinus infections and emphysema – all of these diseases and loss of normal body functions are chasing people from their young age and are following them through their entire life. Lack of oxygen cause often bad quality of living and untimely death.
It’s known today
More than 90% of the body’s energy comes from the oxygen, what means that the more oxygen body gets, the more energy it has.
Nowadays it is very important, because of bad ecological conditions. Our ability to think, feel and act, occur only thanks to the energy of oxygen, and its lack is the reason of the permanent fatigue and poor health. To get a good quality of living, one have to be able to absorb oxygen from atmosphere (breathing) and to transport it to the cells, where it has its important participation to metabolism.
Some cells may produce is short time a small amount of energy without participation of oxygen
(anaerobic metabolism). Other organs, like brain, are composed of cells, which can exist only with constant supply of oxygen
(aerobic metabolism).
The different tissues have different levels of tolerance to lack of oxygen (anoxia).
Both, the brain and the heart are the most vulnerable organs.
Since the times of initial lack of oxygen, first affected are functions of organs, that without being treated, cause irreversible morphological changes (in brain this time is few minutes), which functions cannot be restored no longer possible.
